Cascade AR

Cascade AR

If the heat of the summer was too much for you, then you'll love the wet and mud of the Cascade 6hr Adventure Race. Come do the full AR course with trekking and mountain biking, or do the trek-only course.

This exciting race will get you out in the woods exploring the awesome singletrack and forests somewhere around the Puget Sound area. Checkpoints are plotted on a detailed topographic map for you to locate using only map and compass!

The mountain bike section is mostly all cross-country single-track, with some small hills, but no large climbs. The trek section has a lot of on and off-trail navigation with bushwhacking potential.

Date: Sat Nov 14, 2026, 9:00am - 3:00pm

The Race

This will be a challenging race during the day on foot and bike, with a couple fun challenges mixed in. For the bike section, you will want a mountain bike (hard-tail is fine, nothing too technical). For the trek section, you just need some good shoes, and possibly shin protection for bushwhacking. We have planned the average time for the race to be 5-6 hours with a 6 hour course closure. Cascade Race Start

There will be at least one Remote Transition Area (TA) on this course, where you will transition from being on your bike to your feet. You'll need to carry trekking shoes with you, if you want to run in something other than your bike shoes.

Maps and Controls

MapSnippetThis will be a navigation course in the forest on foot and bike. Maps are less detailed than orienteering maps, but still show a fair amount of detail. Checkpoints (CPs) are plotted on the map as a red circle with a CP number next to it. The goal is to find as many CPs as you can in the alloted time.

You will start from the marked location of a red triangle with Start/Finish on your map. You'll bike to a Remote Transition Area (TA), finding Checkpoints along the way.  You'll leave your bike at the TA with a volunteer and set out on foot for the Trek section, getting CPs in any order.  You'll finish your trek by returning to the same TA location, where you'll then bike back to the HQ, getting more CPs as you go.

The CPs are paired orange-yellow survey ribbons with a word on them, usually tied to a tree, stump or other feature.  Using the map and passport, navigate to the CP, find the ribbons, and circle the correct answer on your passport that matches the word on the ribbon.  Occasionally the CPs are man-made objects with a unique feature. You can look at previous maps and passport from prior races, on the Results and Maps page, to get an idea of what to expect.
